I am curious what statistics you are drawing on to make those statements. I think a clear example that baseball has lost its grip on the American public is this...
Which event has a larger audience? the world series, or the super bowl?

i have ahard time understanding how people continue to make mis-statements without doing their homework. baseball attendance is at a all time high, close to 80 million. no sport, not the nfl, the nba, nascar, golf, u name it ,outdraws mlb, and thats just the majors. we havent even mentioned the minors or college. its just not a sport made for tv. plus the game is not motivated by 'thug life'.

I am looking forward to June 7,the basebaqll draft day. There is a player here named Justin Jackson, an outfielder who has just finished his high school career here who is being projected to go in the second round. Wouldn't it be great if the Nats got him and some of the other good high school and college players who will be available, sign many of them and get them into the Nats farm system this season.

Asheville is within easy driving distance of several cities in the short season Appalachian League, which begins play somewhere around mid-June. Unfortunately, the Nats do not have a team in this league. But I see where the Hagerstown Suns. the Nats farm club in the low A Sally League (same league with the Tourists), are doing better than they were earlier in the season. Go , Nats.

The USA Sports Weekly this week has a featured article on closers and how difficult it is to be a long term closer in the major leagues such as Trevor Hoffman or Mariano Rivera. It gives some mention to Chad Cordero and his struggles this season. But since the article was written, Chad has gotten back on track. He does have the stuff and the makeup to be a successful long term closer, I feel.

After last night's blowout to the LA Dodger, it is easy to get down on the team despite its recent success. Remember, it's s series at a time, and the Nats have won their last 4, including 3 straight from Cincinnati after losing the first one. Go, Nats. I will be at the Asheville Tourists' game this evening, but I'll be thinking about the Nats. I will be wearing a Nats tee shirt and am awaiting the new Natis cap that I have ordered.

Comment on Funny Nats Comic Strip by Steve

I am the Nats No. 1 fan here in Asheville, NC. Having grown up on the old Washington Senators (both teams) I was ecstatic when D.C. was awarded the team. I was able to see a couple of the Nats - Cubs games on WGN and I saw all 4 of the Cincinnati games on Fox Sports South, and I get to see most of the Nats-Braves games (I hope to get down to Atlanta to see a game or two the end of June.

After we lost the Senators the second time, I eventually bacame a huge Oriole fan - it took awhile - but now they're my second favorite team.
And going to a game in Camden Yards is an event in itself.

When I was able to also go to games at RFK (I used to live just 3 miles from there, prior to moving to Hagerstown 12 years ago) I realized what a dinosaur that park is for baseball. But I was glad it was available so the team would have a place to play. I'm looking forward to the new ball park in 2008 and plan to make a visit to D.C. sometime next spring or summer.

We moved from Hagerstown to Asheville just a year ago. I'm gratified to know my old minor league team - the Hagerstown Suns - is now a farm club of the Nationals. The Suns are also in the same league (low A South Atlantic League) as my new favorite minor league team, the Asheville Tourists.

I am amazed and saddened at the negativity of many of the blogs I read concerning the Nats, some of its players, baseball in general, etc. I would like to see more positive, insightful, etc. comments that would lift up , rather than tear down.
Thanks.

[...] Just like the San Francisco Giants before them, the Colorado Rockies are getting the itch to go green. The team is installing a set of solar panels on their stadium in order to reduce the energy consumption of Coors Stadium. It’s great that MLB teams are taking a healthier stance on the environment and making baseball more friendly to the environment. [...]

It is too bad they can't just build an exact yet MODERN replica of the WORLD'S BEST BALLPARK yes you guessed it -- WRIGLEY FIELD. I am NOT a Cubs FAN but I do LOVE that BALLPARK and as much as I LOVE the NATS I will never feel as at HOME as I do in WRIGLEY.

Anyway, my TWO CENTS.
