  2. Nationals Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) -

The Nationals lost both of their veteran catchers to injuries Thursday, a surprising turn of events that leaves 23-year-old Jesus Flores as the club's new starter behind the plate.

Paul Lo Duca (fractured bone in his right hand) and Johnny Estrada (inflammation in his right elbow) each will be placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, the club announced. Lo Duca was hurt April 13 when he was hit by a pitch on his hand. He spent more than two weeks on the disabled list, and though he managed to return, the pain became too much to bear when he fouled off a pitch in the seventh inning Wednesday night in Houston. He'll be out at least four to six weeks.

Estrada is still feeling the effects of an elbow injury that prompted him to have surgery over the winter.

  3. Nationals beat Astros 8-3 (AP) -

Washington Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman (11) scores from third after a wild pitch by Houston Astros' Oscar Villarreal, right, during the eighth inning of a baseball game against the Houston Astros on Thursday, May 8, 2008, in Houston.

Two Washington Nationals players who don't get much playing time made the most of their opportunities. Willie Harris and Rob Mackowiak homered to help the Nationals beat Houston 8-3 Thursday night and end the Astros' five-game winning streak. They were two of four reserves in the lineup as manager Manny Acta rested some of his starters.
